Physician Quality Reporting Initiative
New
Britain Anesthesia is voluntarily participating in Medicare’s
Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI).
What is PQRI?
The Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) is part of the
Tax Relief and Healthcare Act that the President signed on
December 20, 2006. This is a voluntary program, which began in
2007.
What does New Britain Anesthesia do?
In 2008, the Federal Government developed over 100 codes to
measure and track the quality of care delivered to Medicare
patients. Although many medical groups disregard this quality
initiative, New Britain Anesthesia has volunteered to report the
following anesthesia measures:
- Measure #30: Perioperative Care: Timing of Prophylactic
Antibiotics
- Measure #76: Prevention of Catheter-Related Bloodstream
infections-Central Venous Catheter Insertion Protocol
- Measure #130: Universal documentation and verification of
Current Medications in the medical record
What does this mean for our patients?
New Britain Anesthesia will report an informational code to
Medicare detailing measureable quality services provided you.
There will be no charge to Medicare or to our patients. You may
see a zero charge on your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) along
with the following statement:
“This code is for informational/reporting purposes only.
You should not be charged for this code. If there is a charge,
you do not have to pay the amount.”
